henna on other body parts

I have tried henna-ing my lower back and i'm getting very light
color. I spot tested on my palm to make sure the color wasn't stale
and it came out nice and dark on my palm. Is there a reason that it
doesn't leave as dark of a color on other parts and is there any way
I can get good, dark color on my back?
