I am the girl who never outgrew glitter. I will not step foot: onstage when performing without glitter on my body somewhere. And I : religiously apply the same glitter nail polish before every show, and : leave it on until the run of the show is over. Suffice to say, I : can't live without glitter in my life. : : A few weeks ago I was at the dollar store and went nuts finding : glitter body spray, glitter hand lotion, and glitter hair and skin : gel -- all yummy smelling and geez at a dollar for an 8 oz bottle, : who could resist? I was glitter stocked for only $3. Man I was jazzed. : : Well... a comment CCJ posted wayyyy back about hitting powdered latex : with a shot of glitter spray stuck in my brain and kept firing the : same synapse over and over. Finally, I dug out my glitter gel and : decided to try it as a possible sealant for designs. First experiment : worked surprising well, that is it didn't dry off and flake away : immediately. It even kind of "rubberized" the henna, like latex would : but not as strong. I put on a whole big gloop of it though and it re- : wet the henna, turning it back to green from dry-brown, then back to : brown again as it dried. The too-much factor did cause some color : excess color bleeding, so I figured next time, not so much gloop. : Final color came out great, even though I only left it on for 2 hours. : : Next gel experiment, mehndi'ed myself up and applied several lighter : coats of the gel. Wowie did I dig on the glitter, it looked : fantastic! I wrapped with tissue and plastic wrap afterwards and a : few hours later, to my disappointment, I peeked and could see that : the tissue had rubbed most of the henna off. I was :( very sad. But I : still got a decent color for only having left it on for about 3 : hours, even though I think the henna got flaked off in much much less : time than that (like 45 minutes!). : : Today, the glitter gel synapse fired next to the synapse that : controls my paper-making supplies, and the Elmer's glue ingredient : that I use. Hmmmmm... ever painted your skin with Elmer's as a kid : and then waited until it dried, only to try and peel it off in one : big piece?? Dried clear too didn't it? Non-toxic... hmmmmm. : : So I henna'ed up my foot with a personal riff on a CCJ inspired : flower design and mixed about a dime sized squirt of glitter gel with : about 7-8 drops of Elmer's in a shot glass. I did l/s lightly until I : was done painting, to keep it from drying out, and then applied the : Elmer's glitter gel goop with a q-tip, 2 gloopy coats. Again, the : wetness turned the henna back to green and then brown again. 2 coats : of glitter goop later and it feels dry and pretty darn secure to the : skin. I can run my finger over the design lightly and there's no : flaking. I'm gonna run around the house barefoot all day and just see : how it holds up. The glitter rocks my world again. : : Man oh man, I am feeling like Watson and Crick, discovering the DNA : structure -- I may have unlocked the key to my own personal favorite : sealant (super cheap, non toxic, low allergy threshold, holds strong, : smells good, and GLITTERY). If this works, I'm running back to the : dollar store and buying 5 more bottles of gel before their supply is : out! : : Next question, can I mix up a batch to keep in an extra .5 oz j- : bottle and hope that it doesn't dry out??? : : And, has anyone else ever played with the Elmer's as a sealent? If : so, what results? Hi Would you put lemon and sugar on under the gel/glue?
