alternative to mortar & pestlePosted by Willowhawk on July 20, 2001 at 10:49:31: In reply to: the problems with labels posted by Anne in CT on July 19, 2001 at 22:18:19: Grinding resins in a mortar and pestle is definately a dedicatedjob. Damn resin tears bounce out when grinding...loads of fun. An alternative, and maybe cheaper, is to dedicate an electric coffee grinder to this task. I make incense, so I do this when I need to grind resins. The trick w/ grinding resins into a powder is to pulse them in the grinder. If the resins start to get heated, as anything will in the coffee grinder, they will start to stick together and gum up. Which defeats the purpose. Resins gum up somewhat when I use my mortar and pestle too. They are sooooo fun to work with...lol. Blessings, Justine Willowhawk : I've been haunting the local stores which sell essential oils, trying : to find the ellusive cajeput oil (rural CT is rather limiting in some : respects, but I digress) and I've noticed that a lot of labels don't : tell you what's in the bottle - they just give you a name and a : pretty picture. Sun's Eye has some other interesting things in : bottles, but the names aren't all that clear, the contents aren't : listed and the pictures, while pretty, don't help much. Perhaps if I : were more knowledgable about essential oils . . . : : The frankincense I have works great. When I get paid, I might try : out the more expensive stuff, but for now I'm happy. ;-) I am : going to try what Nick did with the powdered frankincense as soon as : I get my hands on a mortle (sp?? I never know how to spell that : word) and pestle. : : Anne, who's off to yet another Wiccan store tomorrow after the face : painting : : : Now that I've had a chance to read Sun's Eye's page, it looks like : if : : the bottle says, "Pure Oil" it is frankincense in soybean oil. It : : must have quite a bit of essential oil in it to give you good : : results. It looks like they are a company that really cares about : : their products. I'll dig around in my herb books and see what it : : says to do to tincture the tears.
