Unfortunately they think the devil is anything and anyone not a part of their church. Well, when I first started showing up with my nose ring and wild garb they all found it necessary to find a way to tell me they were praying for my deliverance. That was ok. I always accepted their offer of prayer as long as they would do it silently and/or away from me...and not during or instead of my workshop. Which was attempted once or twice. Now, I am not against prayer or religion. It is just that I am Baptist and not interested in a conversion. Anyway, when my peaceful and loving attempts to get them to allow me to just come in and do my wonderful and therapeutic workshop for them without their interjection of religion, I finally printed up a couple of large bold printed signs for myself and placed them on easels on both sides of where I stood to present. One said, "DON'T MESS WITH GOD'S ANOINTED!" and the other "GOD WILL FIGHT MY BATTLES!" (My good friend who is the minister of the church told me to do this.) It worked. The foolishness and warring against me stopped. It is called "spiritual warring." The necessity of that dismays me still. But, it is a language they understand. This ofcourse is not appropriate for everyone in most situations. It is just my experience dealing with the aggressions and offensive behavior of the "spiritual warriors" I ran into. I am doing a henna workshop for the same church during their week long revival this month. When I show up to do henna with my hennaed hand and feet in the middle of this revival the paramedics will probably have to come and revive a few of the church sisters. But I am going to henna all kinds of cross and floral designs with words like "hope...love...peace...WWJD...faith" on willing hands. Why not!! Maureen
