smoking "henna" in AmsterdamPosted by Alissa on August 13, 2001 at 04:46:36: In reply to: misconceptions posted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on August 13, 2001 at 04:29:50: : However, in the Netherlands, sometimes marijuana is referred to as: "henna", for purposes of making a buy. And .... seems occasionally it : slides through customs covering illegal pharmaceuticals. : This came up earlier in July from a concerned parent whose son was reportedly smoking henna, claiming they smoke it in Amsterdam. I never saw it there and wrote to my friend who has lived there all his life. I posted his reply in : http://www.hennapage.com/henna/forum/messages/42324.html and he explained the following as well, which seems to add to people's confusion : "No, what to my opinion really happened is a misunderstanding, a misinterpretation of the Dutch word for the marihuana-plant, the hemp. In Dutch it is called 'hennep' which is pronounced as 'hannuhp'. So, the boy is right! Hennep, better known as marihuana of weed, is sold in every coffeeshop in Amsterdam!"
