premix vs. homemade (sorry so lengthy)Posted by Nancy Mc on August 26, 2001 at 03:39:53: Hello out there in the henna world...I've been doing henna for about three years and very early on in this journey, I would mix batch after batch of henna and record all my ingredients, observations, length of stain, color...etc. It was extremely time consuming.... It may have been from reading about some pre-mix on the forum that I ordered mehndi mud. At first it was fabulous....it was the darkest stain I had ever gotten and I could keep it onhand longer than freshly mixed. So, I continued to use pre-mixed, switching to other suppliers and trying their products. My stains only last about a week and a half and I'm not getting the dark colors I was previously getting (consistently). There's so much talk about the essential oils, such as pine, cajeput (or however you spell it)....that I feel like I'm cheating my customers out of a better product. I keep telling myself that it's easier to just whip out the tube of paste....I have 2 kids and limited time.... and I do henna pretty regularly but not always and I need to always have something on hand. So, after all this.....Should I go back to the drawing board??? I feel like I tout myself as a purist but don't even mix my own. I also tell myself it is too much trouble to have to mix each batch and let it sit, etc. and I'll have to wait....and on and on Help. I'm overloaded...and need some simple advice and a simple up to date recipe..there's only a million out there. and some simple info on mixing up at home. Thanks....sorry for the rant. I want to give people what they pay for and I'm definitely not getting a long lasting stain. Nancy
