Dried lime slices, boiling, red color water help please

Hi,

I have read about boiling dried lime slices until the water turns
red. I'm curious though. Can anyone please tell me roughly how long
you have to boil them before the water turns red? And will it only
turn red if the slices are really dry or will it also turn red if
they are partially dry, or even fresh?
