Dyeing shoes

I am thinking that it would be considerably neat to have henna-patterned shoes, but i am thinking of the reactions that hair has to
being both chemically and henna dyed and wondering if shoe dyes would
work the same way. i don't want to kill my shoes! any thoughts?
