Your sign sounds perfect (tho maybe a little small) but what will catch people's eyes and draw them to you is the overall look of your booth/space/table. It's an extra step in the thought process when someone reads the word "henna" on your sign, then they think maybe "what is henna?" and then, "do I want some of that?" or "do I want to find ou what it is?" If you have a ambiance about your space you tap into something viseral and non-verbal; the person sees gorgeous fabrics, wafting incense smoke, exotic costume, rich colors, tassels, pillows, dancers, lithe boys waving palm fronds, a crowd of hennaed people etc. and a whole feeling, an urge overcomes them. There is no logic going on at that point, just "wow, looks inviting/exotic/interesting/beautiful/luxurious/relaxing....me want!" What I try to to do evoke that feeling is to drape sari fabric everywhere in my booth; the colors are all rich jewel tones in the orange/red family. I usually have rugs on the ground and tables with books open to photos of henna. I have a few signs but they are not prominent...they are more something to read once you are drawn to the booth. Whether I am selling other stuff or not I usually bring it because having that draped and arranged around the booth and table add to the atmosphere of the space. I usually have an incense burner going with some Moroccan incense (not your everyday scent) which attracts people as well. The other huge draw is to be hennaing someone. It is amazing how this will draw crowds. Get friends to stop by for free henna. Whenever there is a lull henna your friends, even wipe off your work and start again just so you always appear to be hennaing someone. Hennaing yourself doesn't count because this usually looks, to outsiders, that you are wrapped up in your thing and don't want to be disturbed. If you have to, offer someone free henna or half-price henna if they let you do whatever you want on them, just to attract people to your space. Don't throw away the sign! Keep it but use other methods to attract people. p.s. give me a call if you want to come into the city and shop for saris.
