ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL MSDS - Don't mess with it !!Posted by Jeremy on September 8, 2001 at 19:29:15: In reply to: all you tempty users! posted by Khoa on September 6, 2001 at 01:50:17: : Just mix it with isopopryl (99 percent: alcohol), and make sure its 99% alcohol or else it won't work ... Martin is right. Take a read of the safety data sheet for 90-100% isopropyl alcohol : http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/i8840.htm As I've said before on this forum, concentration is everything. Alcohol represents an acceptable health risk at up to, say, 40%, but judging by the data sheet, 99% isopropyl alcohol is far too concentrated to be handled safely without protection. Here are a few relevant quotes : "Emergency Overview -------------------------- WARNING! FLAMMABLE LIQUID AND VAPOR. HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED OR INHALED. CAUSES IRRITATION TO EYES AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. AFFECTS CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. MAY BE HARMFUL IF ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. MAY CAUSE IRRITATION TO SKIN. " "Skin Contact: May cause irritation with redness and pain. May be absorbed through the skin with possible systemic effects." "Inhalation: Inhalation of vapors irritates the respiratory tract. Exposure to high concentrations has a narcotic effect, producing symptoms of dizziness, drowsiness, headache, staggering, unconsciousness and possibly death." "Skin Protection: Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact. Neoprene and nitrile rubber are recommended materials. "
