Good to knowyou are well. Anyway, back to the miraculous Sirius Mixes. I remember being a little disappointed with my initial experiments. I got nothing but the same stains I get with my regular recipe. I used cajeput, T3 (an old bottle) and pine EO. Then I found out my Jamila henna is kinda old (DUHHH!). This after some experiments done with a new bottle of T3 and ravensara EO (couldn't always be the EO's fault). When I received Kenzi's henna, I mixed it up with lime juice and sugar, let that sit for about 12 hours before adding the EOs (ravensara+T3+pine). As I was impatient, I started application about 2 hours after that. I'm happy to note that the paste stained my skin almost immediately. The next day, even mistakes were visible! The paste stains better when used the next day. I did a small pattern at the top of my hand (where it's hard to stain) and left it on for about an hour (till the paste dried and flaked off) and within 6 hours I had a dark brown stain! The terped paste definitely works better than un-terped. The weather has been very humid and warm as usual, and I don't think at that point I was under stress. I've been using the same recipe (Kenzi's henna+lime juice+sugar+ravensara+T3+pine) on another friend of mine and she got beautiful results as well. Though I have to say she left the paste on for a long period of time (she was afraid the stain would not be dark enough *shrugs*). I have to admit that I don't always get a consistent "almost black" stain on all areas of the skin (fingers are usually darker than other parts) but I'm satisfied with the intensity of the colour vs the time the paste is left on skin. For this, I am utterly grateful to Catherine and all at Sirius for uncovering the "secret". At least I will no longer be in the mercy of the Pakistani premixed peddlars (they are really good though). At least I know what is in the paste (that makes it all worthwhile). I will continue to experiment and share as long as henna is available to me. I was reminded of a recipe for "Sand tarts", a delicious walnut cookie that my mom makes so well. She gave the recipe in entireity to my aunt a couple of years ago (after much persuasion, begging and tears). She hid nothing, showed my aunt the book that her employer (an American) wrote the recipe in more than 20 years ago. Up till now, my aunt hasn't quite made the same tasting cookie that mom makes. Same recipe, same measurements, same ingredients, but different taste. My aunt was quite perplexed but mom chuckled softly when she told her that it took her a few years before she could make HER cookies taste like her employer's, and even so, it wasn't quite the same. I guess we all have to discover what works for us. Patience will normally be rewarded. Just my 2 cents! ;) Love & peace, ~Jewel~
