How to submit info. to search engines, any advice?

As my computer skills ar so sadly limited I am turning to those of you
who have web sites for help..
How do you go about submitting your information to search engines so
people can find you??!!
Seems silly to have a website if I'm the only one who knows about it.

Thanks in advance for any help you're willing to spoon feed me.
