it's not a dye as such, so yes, sorta...Posted by Lauren on September 24, 2001 at 18:36:28: In reply to: Black/dark brown hair henna posted by Siuan Sanche on September 22, 2001 at 19:26:40: Regular dyes actually change the color of your hair. Henna coats thehair with a layer of transluent color. This is why it looks so natural- you still have all the natural variations of color. Think of taking a printed color picture and coloring over it with a crayon- you have the original colors still but with the crayon color overlay. This is why it is so shiny and strong- the translucent layer captures the light and holds the shaft together. I used Rainbow Henna for several years with excellent results. They are a little twiggy, by which I mean that they are not finely ground and you'll have bits of plant in your hair for a week or so. You can use hand-quality henna to avoid the twiggyness. The good thing about Rainbow is that they have a color card showing what each color of henna will do on different colors of hair. Your retailer should have one. : Ummmm.... I don't know if this is just a skin henna forum... but I : think I'll ask my question anyway. : : I have light to medium brown hair. Would it work to henna my hair a : dark brown, dark red, or black? Does anyone have any suggestions for : brand names? the only type I know of is Rainbow Henna from Rainbow : Research Corp. : Thanks...
