Re: Where to BuyPosted by Maureen on September 27, 2001 at 00:09:34: In reply to: Where to Buy posted by Jeff on September 25, 2001 at 04:10:43: Hi Jeff,There is really a lot of great henna powder available from a lot of different suppliers. Someone mentioned the "where" page as a source. There is Moroccan available from Kenzie, Lauren and I have a rather exceptional one as well that gave a dark reddish brown stain immediately when the paste was removed. There is Navaid's Pakistani "red" that stains darker than anything I have seen to date and is great to use. Jamila is also stains great and can tend to give a wide range of stains...Michelle Rossfeld, Castle Arts and I each have Jamila available. For Indian "red", Sondarya has a powder well worth trying as well. I carry Sondarya's powder...Sondarya carries her own powder and perhaps others here have it as well. I am expecting in a supply of Iranian powder in a week or two. The Iranian is known and praised for its truly RED stains. All of the powders mentioned above are excellently sifted (no clogging your applicator tip)...make a smooth stringy and consistent paste (that is a very good thing)...stain exceptionally well (the stain demise is quite different with each powder)...and can give you the results you seek when mixed with only lemon and sugar...And also when mixed with lemon, sugar and cajeput. I have given the names of the people I can think of who carry the different powders. I carry a variety pack of 5 different powders for people who want to experiment and play with an assorment of powders and recipes to find the one most suitable to them. I believe a few other suppliers sell more than one powder as well. You can email me if you would like more information about my Variety Pack. Or email other suppliers about their powders. I just wanted to give you the names of some of the more popular powders and some of the things that people tend to look for in a good powder: Well sifted; smooth paste; stringy paste; deep stains; fast stains; rate of demise. I agree that kits for paste or powder is probably not the way to go unless you are just curious. If you have a good quality fresh henna powder, an applicator bottle, assortment of tip sizes, lemon juice (concentrate in the bottle works), sugar, perhaps cajeput, ravensara or tea tree oil and you mixing supplies (bowl, spoon, toothpicks, cotton balls, Q-tips, saran wrap, toilet paper and plastic bag...you are good to go. All you need to do is work to find out the best mixing consistency and process for mixing the paste that works best for you. If you take time and browse the post since July, you will learn quite a lot about how to work with you henna just from our discussions about our triumphs and struggles. Catherines site has all of the Sirius Mixes information pretty consolidated for you. The combination of her information and the forum discussions should give you a lot of information and insight. Sorry this is so long. Take care. Maureen
