I have had even better results hennaing it first, washing it, then
using the beet juice as a rinse (pretty messy) & leaving it for an
hour or so.

The colour tends to be retained for longer when using the beet juice
as a rinse instead of adding to the paste.

It stays almost the same colour for a couple of weeks, reapplied
every 4-6 weeks.

Maybe your wife will get closer to this colour if she reapplies the
paste every fortnight, so that the colour can build up.
