Novice need help with henna!

I have been tryinging to experiment with henna and have had no
success. I bought some henna powder, imported from India at an Indian
grocery store to try to create some artful designs on my skin. I
mixed the powder, as directed,with some tea, a few drops of lemon
juice, and a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil. I let the mixture set
for a couple of hours in a sealed Ziploc bag. When I tried making a
cone out of the bag and pierced a very small hole in the bag, the
mixture did not come out evenly on my skin. I then tried to paint the
henna paste onto my skin with a small paintbush, but the consistency
was not right.

I would really like to get into henna painting and think that it is a
very beutiful art. I just don't know how to start! Can someone help
me? I'd appreciate any advice.
