sometimes you just have to be polite but firm.Posted by jennifer on October 9, 2001 at 17:13:38: In reply to: advice on dealing with people who think they know it all posted by Jocelyne on October 9, 2001 at 15:28:07: this will take practice but works will with people who think they aremore knowlegeable but are spreading misinformation. say things like "i am so sorry but i think you have been misinformed." or " forgive me but you are mistaken." and proceded onward with giving correct information. most of the time they will be somewhat taken aback and will let you procede, if they don't, they end up looking argumentive and rude, which defeats their purpose as people will will concentrate on their rudness and not their information...most of the time. confidence usually wins. i didn't realize that henna was permenant on the hair, for some reason i got the impression that it coats the hair and then wears off as time goes on. i haven't been paying attention as i henna my hair and then have my hair cornbraided. all the ends of my hair had been dyed before, i just started hennaing my hair around 4 or 5 months ago. i definately noticed a difference in my hair texture. it is much softer and not as fried. i don't get it as red as my natural hair is ash brown but the silver hair makes great highlights and so my hair glints in the sunlight. i will be doing my hair tonight in fact, before it gets braided tomorrow. i have the henna booth at the las vegas ren faire to do this weekend and i do not want to bother with my hair. it is interesting what you learn on this page. thanks, jennifer : Hi again folks. It's been a while that I've stopped on (free time? : what's that?!) ;-}, but I'm glad to see that discussions here are : alive and well. Hope you can help me with my dilemma... : The other day in dance class talk turned to henna, and eventually : using henna on hair. I mentioned as a caution that henna is a : Permanent hair dye, so that folks should be careful if using henna on : their hair. Of course, someone speaks up and says "no it's not it's a : temporary dye" I politely say that no, it's temporary on skin because : the skin exfoliates, but Is permanent on hair. The response is "Well, : my mother is a hair dresser and she used to dye my hair with it all : the time and it's temporary, and it comes in all colours". : I'm not ready to get into an arguement in dance class over it; if : someone who thinks they know better wants to take a chance with their : own hair that's their business; but what concerns me is that this : other woman with lovely Blonde hair is listening to this and then : says "Oh that's interesting", and all I can think is, Please God, : don't let this blonde woman put henna in her hair, thinking she'll : get a temporary dye out of it in whatever colour she wants. : I sometimes run into similar trouble when I mention that people : should avoid black henna because they can be permanently scarred, but : some know-it-all always pipes up, "Oh I got a black henna tattoo last : month at such and such a place and it was great" : Any advice on dealing with folks who share bad information like this?
