Do we have to camp?? I don't have: ANY camping equipment and don't really relish the idea of picking : ticks out of my dreads. Are there lil' cabins to rent? I know some : of the state parks have that, even tho it is still primitive. Unfortunately there are no cabins. However, CCJ and I both have tents that sleep 6-8 people, so that will cover a good number of people who aren't able to bring along a tent. If the weather's good, I don't mind sleeping under the stars which can make room for one more in a tent. Really all you would need is a sleeping bag then. If you still can't abide the concept then there are some B&B's that are a short drive (about 1/2 an hour) away. If you're serious on that route I can hunt up contact info (names, phones of such etc) for you. As for ticks, hmmm I don't know how to help on that one. I am thinking most of our lecture time will be spent retreat style, aka outdoors. Sorry luv. : Also, is there any Native American stuff to do? My mom's been dying : to go out west to hang in the pueblos or whatever. Hmmm well there is a wholllle big bunch of Native American stuff to do, or the tourist version of it at least. The Acoma Pueblo is a short drive from Abq. (less than an hour) and is known as the Sky City of pueblos, as it was orginially built on a beautiful location to be closer to the sky. That's an afternoon type thing to do. There's a bunch of terrible cheesy casinos, but god help you if you want to go that route. You wont get me to go with ya. In Abq. there's Old Town, which is a tourist area where Native AMerican jewlery and such is sold, along with a whole bunch of art galleries. If a group wants to go check out Madrid NM (think old mining ghost town, turns hippie town, meets art gallery haven for about 2 square blocks) that's an idea. Good for a short afternoon also, and only about 1/2 an hour away from the camp site (and the B&B's). Or you can continue to drive up the same route from Madrid into Santa Fe ("Fanta Se") and check out their version of Old Town, which is called simply "the Plaza." Think more turquiose, silver beads, tres expensive art and broom stick skirts out the yin yang. It's something to do. A more outdoorsy person might like Chaco canyon, but thats about 3 hours drive from Abq. It's an old Native AMerican dwelling as well, that many feel a very deep spiritual bond with. Go hike around it and check the vibes. Does she have a specific Native American thing in mind? I don't know when the Gathering of the Nations is (annual, very big Pow-Wow) but that could be looked into. That features lots of N.A. dancing, arts, and all kindsa stuff. Since I'm not N.A. I've never been -- although I don't believe you have to be in order to attend. But it is a gathering for Native Americans. Gawd I dunno know if any of this is helpful...? I hope you can both come! Keep posting if you need more info or email me if the B&B concept appeals.
