Reminds me of a Roman nobleman, Licinius Crassus.
He had Rome's only fire wagon, which he would drive to the burning
building. Once he was there, he'd haggle a price with the owner for
his services, as the building burned before their eyes. You can guess
what happened if they couldn't pay...
