Barefooot henna?Posted by Ken Rice on November 6, 2001 at 10:26:39: I am new to your group, and also new to henna. I have been readingthe forum and some of your individual web pages with interest, and I have learned a lot about what to do (and what not to do.) What brings me here is that I go barefoot whenever I can, partly as a spiritual thing, and partly because I enjoy it. (See http://world.std.com/~rice/plain/bf/ if you want to know more.) Recently I tried using henna paste to toughen the weight-bearing surfaces of the foot, and I find that it works well, and in fact better than some pretty carefully worked out recipes using tannins and alum. I apply the henna pretty much as you would for mehendi and leave it on for several hours underneath socks. It seems to take several treatments to get maximum effect, and the depth of the stain seems to correlate pretty well with the extent of the toughening. I have not yet added terpinols, but I plan to try that. Casual reading revealed that henna has been used for exactly this purpose in Arabia and Persia for centuries. My question is this: Can anyone here direct me to additional information about using henna as a skin conditioner/toughener? God bless, Ken Rice Coopersburg, PA
