Not saying much
Posted on: 11/11/2009 12:08 AM
I felt the need to post these thoughts to those I beleive will uncerstand my frustration. When I was younger I could pick up a pen and doodle away for hours, then came life. I am finding myself creatively stunted by the life whirling around me. It is making it very hard to relax my hand and mind a just practice designs or just be creative at all. I know it will come back with practice and patience;I am not good at being patient. Thanks for listening I knew you would understand! :0)

i felt myself fall further and further into the same rut just a couple of years ago. i decided to back to school, just 2 or so classes a semester at the local jr college, and started taking art classes. drawing, painting, and design. my talent miraculously returned, as did my creativity, and my painting skills (as well as my henna skills) grew considerably in a very short amount of time. it was always there, i just needed some motivation to bring it back out....

I'm going to try and make it to the Eastern Henna Gathering in March. With hope that will help out. We have SO much going on here at home I feel overwhelmed and have had to put a lot of things on hold for myself. I plan to return to school soon. I also have an art studio downtown, but at this point it is a very expensive storage facility. I just keep reminding myself "SOON Very SOON". Thanks for the words of encouragement Bridget I will keep fighting to regain some ground. :0)

I am in a SERIOUS rutt right now as well, and was JUST coming on to post about it. I got all set to do henna on myself tonight and just can not find ONE design I want to do. Not ONE. I can't come up with anything I feel like doing. I haven't done nay henna since the week before halloween...and I'm just...*sigh. I dunno. It makes me sad.

Vampkat- I feel your pain! Try no pattern just doodle, but then you can sometimes end up with not such pretty results. (I have done this many times) Best of luck
I also have the issues of time. Each time I get a cone out and get it all nice and warmed up something happens. One of my children wakes up, the phone rings, I forget something, I have to pee, whatever it is. So then I have this ingrained sense of hesitation now. Right now I just got a seasonal job making pretzels so I can't have henna hands. So I can only do my feet and legs and torso. Blah!
I KNOW IT WILL PASS! Say it with me now I KNOW IT WILL PASS!
CREATIVITY WILL COME!
I need to go to a museum or something other than seeing cartoons and coloring book pages all day. :0)Centered Text Centered Text

ok u are in a creative slump-aka writer's block. it's ok. is there another artistic interest you could pursue for a few days? Maybe a trip 2 the library art section 4 browsing 2 c what catches your eye. go see some show or movie...let it flow. Maybe look at some other aspect of henna in depth.

Lisa might be onto something there - perhaps you need to just put the cones out of your mind for a few days and let your henna-brain recharge itself. After a break, the NEXT time the urge hits, you might be all raring to go instead of royally frustrated byt the whole thing.
:) You do have my sympathies - I do that pretty regularly myself!

You want coloring books and creativity? Go to doverpublishing.com and check out their coloring books. Amazing stuff. Geographical and historical lessons, literature, great masters paintings, all available as coloring books!
Case in point: my youngest was reading Beowulf in his eighth grade English class two years ago. I got the usual Dover email with the latest sales, and lo and behold, they had just come out with (I'm not making this up) a Beowulf coloring book! (This was before the movie, you understand. Just out of the blue.) I couldn't resist, so I ordered it. As soon as my son got it, he wanted the dragon done in henna on his back. You can see the result here.
As one who used to homeschool the kids, it helps to expose them to the better things while they're young. Helps us keep our sanity, that is. Doesn't always do it, and of course we need more. I remember too many times feeling as you do. My youngest is 15 and I'm just now starting to feel like I can take some real time once in awhile without feeling guilty over it. Best wishes for getting past the current slump, and for getting some rest.

You can sign up to get free Dover samples by email. Then you will have a weekly inspiration delivered to you! I get them and enjoy it. I usually can find one or two things will inspire me henna wise. They have many books that translate well into henna, some specific to henna. They also have samples my girls really like, especially the geometric coloring pages. Here is the link. Dover samples
Good Luck.

Thanks all for the help and guidance! I have taken all to heart. I went and signed up for the free Dover samples and will check out more from the site soon. Hopefully I'll have time for painting soon and I'm scrapbooking this weekend for the first time. So maybe that will help. Thanks again! Smiles for miles :0)
Lady tetsu- I'll be in the plains next friday if you have time to get together that day? Let me know
