Indigo and cuts/"open" wounds?
Posted on: 06/01/2009 11:43 PM
I was just wondering what side affects would indigo have on (or near) broken or cut skin. I wouldn't put any in the cuts in the 1st place but if any might drip or get in a small cut, what would happen?

Also, what about heavily callused skin areas, like feet and hands? Would they require extra work to be stained? Thanks!

Don't get dye into open wounds! It's not sterile, it will sting and may even leave a permanent mark like a tattoo. Same as stabbing yourself with compass and rubbing biro ink in, not a good look.

Callused skin stains pretty well. Large areas of dead skin cells can go very dark. You get uneven staining across boundary areas and feet are tricky to work with because of all the contours. The best areas for indigo are large flattish parts of the body that have not had a lot of sun. Legs, torso and shoulder etc places like that.

Best, A
