Indigo on Face?
Posted on: 10/21/2009 03:47 PM
Hi,
I was wondering if Indigo is safe to use on the face? I want to do a recreation of the paint Keira Knightly had for the battle scene in King Arthur for a festival.

Though Ancient Blue probably stains the face easily, I'm uneasy with safety around the eyes, since you have to flush it off the skin with a lot of water and if it splashed into eyes, it could be very unpleasant.
It would be much better to use blue eyeliner, or blue body paint.
Try mixing smashed up blue eye shadow with hair gel to make a paint. That should be safe and effective.

glad i found this post, my question was similar......
my daughter wants indigo on her face to look like the tattoos in the house of night books. it is pretty much a blue moon on the forehead and some pretty stuff coming out from it. i know that indigo needs to be flushed with lots of water and we are thinking that if she tipped backward over the bath tub we could keep it from her eyes, but should we worry about it staining her hair?

The family lawyer says, "NO"
Really, please don't put Ancient Blue on your face. Based on the effects of indigo on torso skin, the stains would be there for a week or two, slowly fading, so that is, in and of itself, inconvenient.
I DO NOT want to incur the liability for something going wrong (splashing in eyes, getting into hair).
Please use a cosmetic specifically approved for use on skin! Do NOT use Ancient Blue on the face, and please do not use it on children, because it has not been tested and approved for that purpose.

Do not use ancient Blue on children.
Do not put it on your face or hair.
I have also corresponded with somebody who wanted to use Ancient Blue on his scalp (no hair) and my advice was not to do so as this is a very runny dye and even the scalp is too close to the eyes.
Great for work on the torso.

Ok, I understand what our wise administrators are saying, about the danger of putting indigo on the face...but technically (and TECHNICALLY only) would indigo dye on the skin of the face produce the same results as when used on other parts of the body?
I won't be using it on my face, I'm just curious if the effect would be the same, or if there is some difference between the skin on the face and that on other parts of the body indigo is used on.

Indigo works best on smooth even textured skin. Large areas such as limbs and torso allow the dye to be used to it's best advantage with enough space to work with fast fluid brush strokes. Any area on the body where you have to work carefully will stilt the brush stokes and the hesitation that results will make the resultant stain poor.
