Thursday at Empire
Posted on: 03/15/2009 09:05 AM
Every Thursday at Empire is Ladies' Night ... : we have something or other ... and the second Thursday of each month is Body Art night. I taught Blue last Thursday.

I was happy because a biochemist turned up wanting to know how Blue works, (after decades of people having absolutely now clue how it could be done) and how it could be used to recreate his Scottish ancestry. He said that the unique formula of Dawn dish washing liquid is why it works so well at prepping the skin for indigo, and eliminating hazing. His friend developed it ... and it didn't work for what his friend wanted it to, but it sure works for Blue. He didn't have time to go into what makes it work ..... but I'm glad it does.

One person said, "Oh ... Blue will be easy for me to learn! Its just like Tole painting and China painting!" Excellent observation! She's not been able to get the hang of a henna cone ... and if she's got years of practice with brushwork, she should be able to pounce right on this one.

After the lecture, and after I'd Blue'd every last person who turned up ... we talked about Highland Games and Celtic Heritage festivals, which are frequently massive ... and the potential for pulling together an Ancient Blue Team to do educational presentations and blue. As long as there's running water ... totally do-able.

How exciting. Do you have pictures of your work from the Blue ladies night? I love to see them. Interesting note on the tole painting/china painting. I have pictures of blue scandavian china that I thought would make great indigo skin patterns. I must get out my tole painting books and work on my strokes.
I'm really excited about breaking in to our local Scottish fair/highland games and have tried to get into our local Irish fair. The Irish fair has not been very responsive though.
