 Fabric "bluing" with indigo?

Ive just been reading about fabric "bluing", an old method used to make clothes look white. Apparently this can be done with a combination of indigo and starch, does anyone know how to do this? I'd love to give it a go but have no idea what quantities to use.

Bluing was always around the laundry room when I was a child ... but it was more of an antidote for the yellowing that came from bleaching. It didn't make things dazzling white as much as it masked the yellow buildup.
