Need some advice
Posted on: 06/22/2009 11:08 AM
Hello there!
I'm a very begginer on this indigo art, I just got a second hand pack from ebay (probably someone who realised was never going to use it) and I followed all the instructions but it doesn't work at all!:S
May I be doing something wrong?? I've tried heating the water, adding more indigo, waiting more, but nothing, the mix seems to be very weak and it just disappears compleately after the water, doesn't matter how many layers I've applied.

I would really appreciate any comments, hope somebody can help me with this, I was euphoric about using indigo and now I'm a bit dissapointed ..:(

Thanks a lot for reading!

Read this:

Finding Blue ~ Science

It is possible that your indigo is VERY old, and wasn't taken care of properly.

Here's all of it ..... http://www.tapdancinglizard.com/findingblue/index.html

To be sure ...... was it an Ancient Blue kit, or something else?

Hi,
If what you have in an Ancient blue kit then there is no way to tell how old the dye is or if it has been kept correctly. It sounds to me like the dye has gone off, if that is the case you will never get good results from it.

Thanks for writing.
Yes, it's an ancient blue crystal indigo pack, but It's missing some thing, like the box, the pencils and the spoon. The rest seesm to be untouched.
It sounds possible what you say, you think there's any way I can find out if that's the acse and it's been stored for too many long?

Thanks again for your help.

Make sure you follow the instructions in Catherines' book Finding Blue - free link at the top of the Forum and in your first reply in this thread.

If you have followed exactly and did not hesitate allowing the dye to demise on the brush before you touched the skin - then the most likley problem is really old dye.

You'll need to get some fresh dye. Then you'll be able to work on the technique and if you don't get good results it'll be a situation you can fix with practice.

Best, A
