:If we all stopped on the same day and refused to :give it to the public, trust me they would still get a henna. I can't think of how many people come to this forum who are unhappy with the colour results of properly applied natural henna. Almost every day there is another person asking how to make their henna darker or black. These are the people who read the small article in the back of the local magazine that always contains some variation of the following line: "Mehndi is great for those of you who are too chicken to make the committment to a tatoo." Almost everyone I meet on the street also assumes that I do mehndi as a substitute for tatooing my hands. What colour are most of the tatoos out there? Black! The man or woman on the street is not interested in the history or ritual of mehndi, he or she simply wants something that looks like a black tatoo so they can be cool for a while. Professional mehndi artists need to stress the fact that mehndi is its own, separate art form, that THIS colour comes from THIS herb, that the temporary nature of it is part of the art. I hope that those of you who read this forum regularly are putting the proper "face" on mehndi art.
