Am I doing something wrong?

I got a henna kit, and they gave me a tube of premixed, too. The
premixed stuff stained my hands, but no where else on my body. I've
tried it on other people, too, and it won't stain. So I mixed up a
batch of the powder, and that isn't staining, either. I mixed it with
lemon juice and tea, and did all the little things that I read about,
but... Is it the henna, or is it something else?
