As a self-employed person in several fields and a former business
practices instructor, my best advice is get paid in advance whenever
possible. If that's not possible, re-state the price to the person
or person in charge and then re-state your terms (when they have to
pay).

And always GET IT IN WRITING!!! If your prices are in writing,
either a contract or brochure or both. Do state that you will be
paid $___/per hour for designs or sessions that run past the
specified time. If you are hired for a job, make sure that the
person in charge of the event reads ands signs that they have read
your price for the job.
