About this in the workplace... I work at a pet store and technically we are not allowed to have visible tattoos, and the such. Well, technically, it's not a tattoo, but I know my district manager may not see it that way. So when he visits the store I basically stay out of sight. There's something I learned from working in retail, and it's "Don't ask for persmission, ask for forgiveness..." Basically, go ahead and do it, (unless you fear strong disciplinary action), and if they say that you shouldn't, say "Sorry, I just got it done because I thought it looked great..." As with anything in the workplace, discretion is everything. You don't want to go to work with little naked mehndi people dancing around on your palms, you definitely run the risk of raised eyebrows then... Another thing, older people are pretty cool about it once you explain it to them. They usually appreciate the traditional, passed-through-the-generations quality about Mehndi. Though one older lady I worked with finally just said "But YOU'RE not Middle Eastern..." Heh heh... But the next day she came to me and said, "Oh, I was telling all my friends about you and the Henna..." And I knew that she at least liked telling other people about Mehndi and its history. Unlike many forms of body decoration, Mehndi has a good, solid, generations-old reputation.
