You have to kind of push the henna into the fabric, without ruining your line. When you are doing henna on skin, you can push it onto the skin if the line sits up on hairs...or it will flatten out as the skin moves (or when you put on the lemon sugar or New Skin). I drew my design on first as I wasn't doing freehand designs and had to fit it onto a limited area. I found it more nerve wracking than henna on skin because the henna is harder to remove in the case of a smudge or a mistake. I used linen and found that it didn't wick the stain.
