I speak for myself when I say that a client that lets me do whatever I wish, or offers me total artistic freedom with a design, always ends up with a much more beautiful design than one that sits down and wants a replica of a pattern out of one of my books. That's not to say that one of my books may have an original design in it that I chose for a particular client, yet for whatever reason the energy or something about the design isn't right with another and so on. I think it's all about intetion, and I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's tough at times when you have clients that come to you with specific requirements for designs, or a preconceived notion about what they want their design to come out like. It's especially hard for me at festivals when I have had kids come up to me and wanted cartoon characters or happy faces. I just won't do them. I tell kids that I won't jeopardize my artistic integrity.....most of the time I think they just don't understand that I won't do what a face painter will. This brings me to another sort of related topic. How do you guys feel about working festivals with competition? And what do you consider competition?????? Do you consider any of the following competition: Temporary tattoos Face Painters I do. I have worked many festivals with both, and I think there is a certain clientele that frequents each. Obviously little kids are more for face painting (allthough I did have a mother once ask me if I would do henna on her kids face, and I refused!)......but temporary tattoos are really big here in MN at the festivals. They piss me off when they are at the art festivals, because I figure, hey they aren't CREATING art by the way, they are just licking and sticking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the most party I don't say much about it, but to some degree I feel that they are competing with what I have to offer. They are temporary, they wash off, they have color.....all these advantages. But the one big advantage that henna will always have over temp tats, is that it it's art....a miniarture artistic design designed specifically for my client.
