Shiva certainly has roots in the Vedas, but he, specifically, is not
mentioned by that name. There is most always a chief deity, but names
and attributes shift. I'm just dating Shiva from the first mention of
a deity going by that name.
Do you need bibliography on that one? You are welcome to agrue with
my sources.....
