Tonight, some friends and I will be heading out for First Night in
Mystic, CT - and at least two vendors will be offering "tattoos" (as
it's printed on the schedule). I'm not sure if these will be Temptu,
henna or the fake decal tattoos, but I fully expect to see a little
of the black henna somewhere in the area. Earlier this year, we had
a sail fest. I didn't go to it, but I talked with some teenagers at
one of my workshops about it. They told me they had some black henna
applied to them - no warning, no permission slips, no nothing. (I
gave my own version of the dangers of black henna rant at the
workshop and I think the girls will steer clear of it in the future.)

At any rate, I have henna on my hands - nothing much since I start my
student teaching on Tuesday (6th grade!) - but I do have one of
Catherine's wonderful peace patterns on my palm (thanks much to
Catherine for such beautiful patterns!). If there is any black henna
floating around, I'll be able to show what the traditional and safe
stuff looks like.
