On the cover of "Onkruid", a magazine from the Netherlands, New Age and all, there is a "henna" that looks like it's airbrushed. I say "Henna" because that's the title at the bottom of the photo, but that the only reason to call it that ... It's a pattern that seems to be stenciled and airburshed (you can see the airbrush - like shading) but it's been done in 1) Temptu or 2) ppd or 3) some black colored "henna". As it's BLACK and going up the hips and back of a Dutch-West Indian lady ... it's definitely not the traditional goo. As it's symmetrical and hard-edged with shading, airbrushed into a stencil would be the most likely way of doing the job. The only way to find out, really, is to get one of those pens, sift like crazy, and 1) see if it can be done with traditional henna (still really doubtful)rather than ppd or colored henna {which it almost certainly can be) and 2) see if the medium holds up to artistic expression or is a headache (clog much????). (The article on henna "Versier Jezelf met Henna", inside seems to be full of quotes starting "De Amerikaanse Catherine Cartwright Jones uit Ohio....." and is full material, jpgs and gifs I emailed to them last summer. My left hand is bewildered by sudden fame. I can't read Dutch well enough to understand the article, but it looks really familiar, very well done, and impressed my children that their mother isn't entirely an inconsequential old bat....)
