Most dancers either try to reproduce actual facial tattooes (tribal patterns and protective patterns) though some modern tribal troupes make up their own designs. If a dancer is really trying to imitate a facial tattoo, especially north african ones, the best way to make it close to "real" is to use blue, or a mixture of blue and green eyeliner. Black works, too, (most tattooes are blueish or greenish though) I especially like waterproof black liquid eyeliner for that (which doesn't look as accurate, but it doesn't smear) Zimra
