Henna and hair. . . a bundle of questions

I've been talking to CCJ about Lucille Ball and how she dyed her hair
red with henna. I was just curious, how would you go about doing
that? Has anyone tried it? Do you use the paste? How? Is it
permanent? Does it only do Lucy-Red? Is there a special way to keep
it from dying your scalp and ears?
