At this point, I've taken so much flack from the tattoo junkies that I have to grit my teeth to not go into Reverand Bunny mode when someone starts in..... So I try to be gracious and eloquent. I understand where tattoo people are coming from, and I absolutely respect it .... ... here's the "CCJ why henna" rant: "There are many forms of beauty and identity. Some beauty is transitory, like flowers, celebrations, love, passion, the joy of the moment celebrated with friends and loved ones. Henna is the marker for those experiences. With henna, you sieze the beauty of the moment, then gradually let it go. Typically these are times when you henna for a lover, for a birth of a child, for a marriage, for a night of passion, a night of sharing celebration of life with your friends and family. Enjoy these things while they last. Don't try to hold on to these moments, because they are ephemeral. There are some forms of identity that are ephemeral .... like the personna of the bride night that she marries. There is only one moment when she surrenders her virginity, before that she is a child, after that she an adult. You cannot hold on to these moments. You must release these moments as your body releases the henna. There will be more experiences to follow; celebrate them in turn. " Tattoos are for a different sort of beauty and identity. Henna's body markings are not inferior to permanent body markings. They are simply different.
