I think laudanum was what was meant (a few too many nnnnns there)(CCJ, queen of errata) That does bring up an interesting possibility.... Mummies and such have traces of opiates in them ... from that period and there are goddess statuettes with opium poppy seed pods in their crowns ...from that period ... I'd always wondered why greasing (annointing) ones hair and beard would be such a big deal and why royalty would be so willing to part with so many sheckels to get this royal beard grease (holy annointing oil) from ancient Arabia ...BUT... if the beard grease not only gave one a great buzz, but was addictive too ... that would explain why they bought it not only once, but repeatedly, and were willing to squander so much money on it, and ascribe to it such great magical import. How easily will laudanum penetrate skin? .... or did they only lick their lips after getting their moustaches greased?
