This came up a while back... I did test yesterday.... a pulse oximeter reading WILL be made innacurate by henna on the fingernails, though henna doesn't mess up the readings AS badly as fingernail polish. If you know you'll need to have clear fingernails for surgery, or various cardiology testing .... and you don't have the 2 1/2 months forewarning to let the henna grow completely out .... you can remove the henna on the nail by gently scraping lengthwise along the nail with a single-edge razor blade. This will sort of lathe off the top layer. The henna doesn't go all that deep. Be patient, and with careful latheing, you can clear a whole nail if need be. I really hate the way my nails look unhennaed ... all pale and whimpy. (I kept the toenails though, to cheer me up.) I can't wait to get back to deep hennaed fingertips!
