That red #3 is probably the only one of the several dye molecules used to compose the brown that's actually breaching your skin cells. There are a couple of red clown-type makeups that have that colorant and it stains skin a little when left in place several hours (like when used as body paint on a dancer for a performance). The lemon juice assisted the penetration of the skin cells .
