Does marble have a pH?Posted by P.J. on April 08, 2000 at 11:11:00: The other day, I was grinding up some henna leaves a friend gave to me, (they were henna, I know her plant) and I went to my mortar and pestle to grind them up. However, when I did, I added all my traditional ingredients into the paste, mixing in the mortar and pestle like I always do. I mixed a little longer this time, grinding down the leaf matter to the point that it became REALLY nice and smoothe. Anywho, I applied it, and nothing happened. I mean NOTHING. I noticed that it was a little abrasive (like soft scrub) and I knew that the abrasiveness had to have come from a little bit of the marble mortar and pestle. But I was wondering, if there was marble in my paste, could that have offset the pH to the point that no dye was released? Another possibility is that I was grinding down some rocks of baking soda a week or two ago, and I washed the M & P thoroughly, but I guess there could be some sediment. Could any of this contribute to the problem? I didn't know if there was a problem with the marble - I couldn't find the pH for it ANYWHERE. Does it have one? Or (gasp) HAVE I LOST MY HENNA POWERS!?!?!? ~P.J.~
