The sugar they used in Morocco was just regular sugar. I guess someone would have to do some experiments to see if sugar or honey took longer to dry and also if they kept the paste from cracking as it dried. My henna in Morocco may have been saved from cracking and flaking because it took so long to dry. Whenever i get impatient and use the hairdryer on my henna it cracks worse. As for the ammonia crystals in Morocco, they make a powder of it and use it in the paste. Catherine has a method of dipping the skin in ammonia AFTER the paste is removed...this speeds up oxidation and makes the stain darker. This method is okay on hands or feets, but apparently it can be pretty harsh and burning on other areas of the body. If you ask nicely I am sure that she will email you her blurb on it.
