Thats the exact experience my friend had upon a recent trip to India .She brought back some of the stamps though and they were beautiful. Looked kind of like the ones I have seen from Bali that are used to print fabric (Wooden hand carved ).She bought a set of four for one dollar! .It sounds to me like the colored "henna". Theadora : Well, my Indian friend went to the local Indian grocery and had henna stamps done on her hands. Here's how she said they worked: A red "henna-ink" was squeezed onto an ink pad. The stamp was then stamped onto the pad, and then stamped onto her skin. The designs were beautiful, but the color lacked the authentic "henna" look to it. It looked a bit like a red crayola marker. The designs faded in about 2 days, and now there's hardly a trace...
