I've been hennaing my hair for nearly 15 years, with no ill effects. Usually every 6-8 weeks. I've used commercial hair henna, and lately I recycle my left-over skin henna (after Catherine suggested it -- it just make a lot of sense!). I mix a little olive oil with mine to add extra conditioning. Sometimes I just dump a little commercial conditioner into the mix. My ends tend to get very dry, but I don't have a lot of split ends. I also live in Texas where the climate is pretty hard on hair... I think hair is more porous than skin -- so henna that is too stale for skin works great on hair. Commercial hair hennas tend to give very wimpy stains on skin (they;re usually not very fresh), but they're just fine for hair. Both Light Mountain and Rainbow henna have a range of colors from strawberry red to deep auburn. Your natural hair color will ultimately determine the depth of color. Catherine, Fiona and myself all use the same kind of henna -- but Catherine has a deep chestnut color, Fiona has a more copper penny color and I have more of a brownish maple furniture red.
