Henna hair color help?

I am so glad I stumbled onto this forum!!! I dye my hair demi-permanently, but hate the chemicals in it that damage my hair. I'm growing it long, it is almost waist length, but I desire it longer. However, coloring my hair damages the ends so that any new growth has to be chopped.

I read about Catherine's hair, calf lenght and not trimmed for 17 years! Wow! Can I see it? Henna may be the healthy answer for me.

My hair color is medium brown that has red highlights. But I always desire redder hair. I like how copper tones look on me, sort of gold-red. What color henna should I look for? Is it permanent? Can anyone help me, and give me some hints and tips for even healthier henna coloring? Thanks so much!
