Henna on hair during pregnancy?

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered here before, but a
brief look did not yeild any results. I am 20 weeks pregnant and am
avoiding chemical hair dyes during pregnancy. I would have thought
that henna would be completely safe to use, but a while ago I read in
a book on henna that folk wisdom says not to use henna on hair during
pregnancy because it is considered an astringent.

Does anyone have any further info on this? Why would an astringent be
contraindicated for pregnancy? Has anyone heard anything else about
henna use on hair during pregnancy?
