Red, red, red ... The Meccan henna story ...

I put together a little page of how the meccan henna I have gave me
wonderful, beautiful reds (and a little story of freshly ground henna
leaves).

Zimra is right about the henna being fresh (see Lauren's query on
nuking henna to red). I normally get kilos of henna from Mecca from
friends, relatives, neighbours who went on pilgrimage there. The
powder is normally green, smells wonderful and extremely coarse. I
added just plain tap water to get those beautiful red stains (see
picture). Sometimes I'd throw in bits of catechu while mixing (mom's
advice, to get more red). I guess I have a personal preference to red
rather than brown or black because I grow up seeing henna staining
skin and hair a beautiful deep dark red.

Hope everyone enjoy the stories and pictures.

Love & peace,

~Jewel~
