Now I charge half my hourly rate for travel time over a half hour total. I also charge for travel expenses (if by train, for the ticket, if by car for gas money). I was talking to a professional DJ who said he charges his regular hourly rate from the minute he walks out his door to the end of the night when he walks in his door. He also charges a certain rate for the mileage on his car and for gas. I thought this was excessive but he says that is pretty much the norm. Ask around with people who do the same kind of work where you travel to people's homes to perform a service and you will see that these rates are normal. As for meals...hmmm, dunno. I usually forget to eat when I am hennaing, either at an event or just hennaing myself. Whenever there is a food at an event, the host/client usually suggests that I help myself. If there isn't food sometimes they will offer to get me something, tho I usually decline. Otherwise, i just eat before I arrive or eat when I leave. If you are concerned about paying for your food on the road, just work it into your hourly rate by adding an extra $2, for example.
