Hi Sarah,

I am from a little town as well. But because I am known to be an
artist and also because of my age, I can get away with just about
anything. What I found out long ago was that people followed my lead
in their reactions to what I had on or did or said. I tend to thank
and provide information for people who like my mehendi and smile or
laugh at the ones who don't know what it is or have some sort of
criticism. Remember, as the artist you are the one with the vision.
You see and set the trends. You will always be out front doing
something that most people have never thought of doing or knew
existed. You have to be able to hold your own in that spot. Think
of the people with the criticisms simply as the conformist...the
sheep. That henna on you separates you from the pack. But remember
that you are not alone. The world is bigger than your town and you
have expanded your horizons and the horizons of everyone who learns
of henna from you. Don't let them get you down. It takes a rare and
special spirit to have the only hennaed hands in town. Think of
yourself as the work of art that you are.
